So in conclusion, Id like to
recap that personal mobility in the 21st century will include:
Advanced power systems
New materials for lower mass
New ideas in vehicle packaging and design
Subsystems for public transit systems
And finally, the idea of private cars may ultimately give way to a
different system that focuses on providing inhabitants with the "commodity" of
transportation. Personal mobility is truly a commodity in today's world, yet
the backbone of our personal mobility system, the automobile, is designed and marketed as
though it were a discretionary consumer item. By seeing it as the commodity
that it is, a system based on very different hardware will naturally emerge.
