This workshop has been one of our most popular
over the years, but we have made it even better. We will start the
workshop at the Grand Canyon for a sunrise and then proceed on to Page and
Antelope Canyon, the most famous of the Southwest's slots. We will
also spend two full days at Monument Valley. We will then spend a night at Canyon de
Chelly. Then it is off to Sedona and its red rocks.
Northern Arizona’s share of the colorful Colorado
Plateau graces us with arches, pinnacles, canyons (both vastly wide and
precariously narrow), and swirls of multihued rock that evidence millions of
years of the earth’s evolution. Our base of operations will move from Grand
Canyon to exciting Page, Arizona, then to spectacular Monument Valley,
Canyon de Chelly and
ending in the red rocks of the Sedona area. While in the Page area, we will
visit Antelope Canyon (weather permitting -- and it is very rare for the
weather to be a problem in May), slot canyons so narrow that the midday
sun shines in and creates a vibrant light show on the Navajo sandstone
walls. The warm morning and evening light creates a dramatic effect on the
pink, red and orange rocks around Lake Powell and throughout area. We will
then proceed to Monument Valley, for two days of sunset and sunrise shoots
with a local photo guide, exploring the huge red buttes that have been a
backdrop for so many of the old classic western movies. Then it is off to
Canyon de Chelly for its unique view of large buttes and the canyon below
and with its ruin structures from ancient times. Next we will head
south to Sedona, one of the most stimulating red rock
areas. Evening
and morning destinations will include exuberantly glowing red rock cliffs
and formations that seem to have been created simply to stir the creative
juices in nature photographers.
The optional bat shoot
will take place south of Tucson. We will travel there after dropping people
at the Phoenix airport and spend the night at Green Valley, AZ. The shoot
will be at night using pre positioned flashes, as the bats fly in to drink
at a pond. The cost $150 for the shoot. If you are shooting the
bats and riding with us, you will need to schedule your return flight out of
Tucson on May 25.
