Glacier National Park, a region of the Rocky Mountains, is located in northwest Montana adjacent to Waterton Lakes, a Canadian Provincial Park.  Glacier contains an incredible diversity of terrain and wildlife: windswept peaks with battered twisted pines, rolling grasslands that seem to bloom most of the summer, thickly forested hillsides, and pristine alpine tundra, all of which are home to a multitude of flora and fauna. Animals range from the small pikas, marmots, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, and bald eagles to deer, moose, and a significant population of grizzly and black bears. Over 25 major species of trees, 264 species of birds, and 60 species of mammals thrive in this wilderness area. There are over 730 miles of exciting hiking trails in the park some of which we will explore. The focus of this workshop will be on the non-cliché parts of the Park and is scheduled during the prime wildflower season in Glacier.  Ron has led many workshops in Glacier for several years and knows the right places to make this an outstanding experience.

We will be based at the Swift Current lodge in the Many Glacier area of the park for a couple of day while we explore the trails and lakes of the area during the time of wild flower bloom in the park. We will travel the famous engineering marvel of the 1930 “Going to the Sun” road photographing the many waterfalls and scenic views along it. The last few days of the workshop we will be at the Lake McDonald Lodge on the west side of the park and will explore the area including Avalanche Lake and Creek.

Summer is a great time in Glacier NP. The weather can change quickly from fluffy whites clouds to storm clouds and light snow thus providing a multitude of photographic opportunities. We hope you join us to explore and photograph this majestic area in northern Montana.
