Bryce Canyon
& Zion National Parks Typical Workshop Schedule What Is Included Payment, Discounts, Cancellation, Refund Policies What to Bring Return to Schedule of Offerings Return to Roger Devore's Bio Page
This workshop spends six days combining two of the most popular Colorado River Plateau parks located in Southern Utah. Although not far from each other, each park provides a unique and different perspective of the geological formations that make the Plateau like no where else on earth. We will start in Bryce which consists of a series of rock amphitheaters carved from the existing geology of the area. What makes Bryce really unique are the vertical spirals of rock that rise out of the amphitheaters. These "hoodoos" of red and orange rock provide perfect subjects for our images. We will be there in early to photograph these magnificent formations in the best light and walk among and marvel at these "hoodoos". Next we will move on to Zion after a short drive. Zion is located at the junction of the Colorado Plateau, The Great Basin, and the Mojave Desert. This combination provides colorful sandstone canyons, rocky deserts and forested plateaus making Zion one of the most diverse parks in the country. Zion Canyon is the most popular area of the park, where the Virgin River has carved a forge of red and white limestone reminiscent of Yosemite Valley. Other parts of the park provide colorful mesas with unlimited patterns, colors and textures carved in the sandstone. We will be there in autumn, when the fall colors of the canyon trees explode in yellows and reds. We will explore the popular, most photographed areas of Zion, but also the less visited, more unique sections to bring back a variety of wonderful images from this magnificent location.
