Rabbi Irwin Kula joins with the Dalai Lama and Queen Noor

On Sunday, September 17, 2006 Rabbi Irwin Kula participated with the Dalai Lama at the dedication of the largest stupa (Buddhist sacred building) in North America in Red Feather Lakes, CO. Rabbi Kula also gave a presentation to over 2,000 people on Peace and Global Leadership prior to the Dalai Lama teaching. The Dalai Lama, Queen Noor of Jordan, Sakyung Mipham Rinpoche (the leader of Shambhala), and Rabbi Kula then spent private time together discussing the challenge of taking one’s tradition in all its particularities through the American experience of freedom and openness.

Rabbi Brad Hirschfield at the Malaysian Mission to the UN

On Tuesday, September 19, 2006, Rabbi Brad Hirschfield met with Prime Minister Badawi of Malaysia at a small meeting of twelve invited leaders at the Malaysian Mission to the United Nations. The meeting was devoted to exploring the challenge of taking a religious tradition public. Rabbi Hirschfield was specifically invited to reflect upon how to maintain deep pride in one’s particular tradition while serving the common good.

Dr. Michael Gottsegen on Religion and Development at the UN

On Thursday, September 21, 2006, CLAL Senior Associate Dr. Michael Gottsegen spoke on religion and international development at the United Nations. He participated in a High Level Conference sponsored by The Tripartite Forum on Interfaith Cooperation for Peace, as one of ten non-governmental representatives in a conference whose other panelists were drawn from member states and U.N. Agencies.
